You won’t want to sleep in this weekend and miss out on this special Hillside event! We’re excited to welcome a guest speaker from Creation Ministries International: Dr. Robert Carter. He’ll be sharing with us…

What to Expect

We’ll start the morning off to connect over some artisan lattes and fresh pastries before gathering to listen to Dr. Carter share his passion for creationism and how it impacts our understanding of who God is and the truth of the Gospel. After his presentation, we’ll break up into small groups to discuss our takeaways and reflect on the intricacy of creation and what this means for our lives. It’s a great opportunity to be encouraged by truths about the God who created us and connect with likeminded young adults… and enjoy some stellar coffee! Sounds like a recipe for a great start to your weekend.

About Dr. Carter

Dr Carter was converted to Christ at an early age, but did not know what to do with the theory of evolution. He always knew what he wanted to believe, but had no way to express what he was thinking and no evidence to support his views. In his freshman year of college, he was exposed to the information for creation for the first time and soon after adopted it as his modus operandi. He says he felt a tremendous joy when he realized his science and his religion were no longer at odds. This joy (and, he says, Creation magazine and the Journal of Creation) enabled him to get through the in-depth evolutionary training of his undergraduate and graduate programs with his faith intact.

He obtained a BS in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He then spent four years teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics and electronics before going to the University of Miami to obtain his PhD in Marine Biology. He successfully completed this program in 2003 with a dissertation on “Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins.” While in Miami, he studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture facility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patented fluorescent protein) to a biotech company.

He is currently a senior scientist and speaker for CMI-USA in Atlanta, Georgia, and is currently researching human genetics and other issues related to biblical creation.

What is Hillside All About?

• The mission of every Hillside event is to create opportunities for intersections and meaningful conversations with other young people. Hillside is a great way to make some new friends or do something fun with your current friends. It is a great opportunity to grow and be challenged to become more like Jesus.

• We always have an activity & then a devotional and discussion time. During the devotional time, we'll share truths from the Bible, and focus on how we can apply them to our everyday lives. Afterward, we split up into small groups and discuss some conversation questions about the devotional topic. This is a great opportunity to learn, share, and encourage our peers as we are striving to live more like Christ daily, not alone but together.
